This sequel is a good example of what not to do. It suffers from a strong case of sequelitis, the crippling condition of not knowing what story to tell so you throw the whole kitchen at it and hope it somehow makes a four course meal. Now, don't get me wrong, the movie is bright, colorful and charming with genuinely funny and sweet moments for Moana and her growing much-larger crew. But that's the real problem, the story is so busy being busy that they never find the true rhythm of the heartline they want to pluck, the central idea and moral they want to focus on. The first film was about finding yourself ... This one is about a dozen things all blended into a disco undersea boogie. Again, fun, worth your time, sure, but really just becomes a bowl a lukewarm clam chowder. But big props though for including the coconut dudes and the pig plus Maui's musical number midway through where the film soared from a brief moment.
