I so don't enjoy a prequel ... usually. Typically they're just this I suspenseful story because the future is already written. There's no mystery! But here's a good example of a prequel done charmingly right. With warm poppy musical numbers we learn how Mufasa becomes the OG Lion King. With these cute cuts between Simba's new daughter, plus Timon and Pumba, and an ever-wise, Rafiki (who totally steals the show), mixed with a story of the past and how Mufasa got lost and was found again. Beautiful animation. Lovely messages about family and being true to one's heart while not letting cowardice make a villain out of you. While the making of Scar felt whiplash fast, and I kept thinking why the other animals would listen to a lion who would eat their children first chance they got, so reality aside, it was still a good Disney kinda time at the movieplex.
