@ the Movies: "Y2K"

I somewhat recall 1999. I was 21 and losing my damn mind going out way too often and partying. Wild, blurry visioned times. But I do recall this fear being spread like a new herpes virus about the computers also losing their damn minds at the stroke of midnight 2000. This never came to pass of course (albeit I do think the Internet is making people sick), but in this air thick flick, it does happen, a tech apocalypse is born. Starring Jaeden Maetell, Rachel Zegler and Julian Dennison as high schoolers at a fab party, what starts as a fun teen age romp about finding confidence just turns into a ho-hum boring mess. They kill off one of the best characters way too early and the film can't seem to find a tone. Are you a satire? A comedy? A horror flick? Neither? All of them? Fred Durst popping up feels random but right in the aimless last half of the flick. As a nostalgia bomb, it has some tickle-me moments, but mostly I just ate my Reese's and waited for the credits to roll.
